If you or someone you know is experiencing a serious life-threatening medical situation or needs emergency care then Urgences Santé should be called. The number is 911.
There is a no charge for responding to a call. However if transportation to a hospital is required there is a charge of $125 plus an additional $1.75 per kilometer. Some private insurance companies will reimburse you for ambulance charges.
Exceptions: people who are injured in traffic accidents, seniors (65+) being taken to hospital (as long as criteria for the free program are met), and some people who receive social assistance.
